Switzerland Relocation Guide

Everything on our Switzerland page, taken further and turned into a working file: a 90-page guide with document lists by route from the Embassy’s leaflets and the cantons’ own lists, the retiree benchmark and health insurance for your household, transfer tax worked out at five prices in seven cantons, lump-sum taxation, the 2026 federal tariff and AHV contributions worked out, and a month-by-month plan; an Excel workbook that does the arithmetic in Swiss francs and dollars; and a Word checklist you check off as you go. Every rule and official figure is taken from, or calculated from, an official source, 133 of them, checked on September 25, 27 and 28 and October 4, 2026; the worked households use assumed incomes, labeled as such.

What You Get Beyond the Free Page

Our Switzerland page is free and stays free. The guide adds the parts you need when you actually start the paperwork.

Chapter or toolWhy it matters
Three worked householdsA retired couple on Social Security and a company pension in Lugano, a remote-working couple with two children in Zurich for whom the rules point to a Swiss job, and a single early retiree on investment income in Lausanne, each taken through the route the rules point to, the tests line by line, the first-year fees and the monthly lines with an official figure (composite examples: their incomes and savings are assumptions, not real clients).
First-year cost planThe visa and permit fees and the legal limits, and the monthly running costs, with a column for your own figures; it matches the workbook, and it says plainly that the official rents are rents paid, not what you will be asked.
Document tracker and month-by-month planEach document by route with where to get it, its validity and any certification or translation rule an official source states, plus a plan from 12 months before the move to 3 months after, as checklists in Word.
Document lists by routeThe Embassy’s rules for every national visa file, its family reunification and student leaflets, the retiree lists of Zurich, Vaud and Geneva, and SEM’s Young Professionals instructions, each dated to the version we read.
Your household’s numbersThe retiree benchmark for a single person and a couple in ten towns, basic health insurance for 1 to 4 adults and 0 to 3 children, and the first fees, in francs and dollars.
Purchase taxes and tax rules, workedTransfer tax or fees at five prices in seven cantons, the federal and cantonal lump-sum bases in five cases, the 2026 federal tariff, and the AHV contributions of people who do not work.
Numbers, deadlines and glossaryEmergency numbers in the official wording, the Embassy’s, the consulates’ and the cantons’ contacts, the deadlines that repeat, and the local terms you will meet.

Made For

  • Americans who have chosen Switzerland, or narrowed it to Switzerland and one other country.
  • Retirees of 55 and over with ties to Switzerland, and wealthy people who will not work there.
  • People with a Swiss job offer, young professionals aged 18 to 35, and their families.
  • Anyone who wants to arrive at a lawyer’s or tax adviser’s office already knowing the rules.

What It Is Not

  • Legal, tax or immigration advice. It explains the rules in general; your case needs your advisers.
  • Remote work for a U.S. employer: we found no digital-nomad or remote-work permit in Swiss law, and the guide says so.
  • Cantonal and communal tax rates: they vary by commune, and the guide gives none.

Questions About the Guide

How is the guide different from your free Switzerland page?

The page explains the rules; the guide is built for doing the work. It adds three worked household examples, a first-year cost plan, a document tracker and a month-by-month plan, document lists by route, your household’s figures, transfer tax worked out at five prices, lump-sum taxation, the federal tariff and AHV contributions worked out, deadlines, a glossary and key numbers, plus the Excel workbook and the Word checklists.

How current is it?

Every rule and official figure on our Switzerland page was checked against official sources on September 25, 2026; the sources added for the guide’s own chapters were read on September 27 and 28; and the 2027 health premiums, announced on September 29, were read on October 4; each is numbered to its source. Where we found no official figure, such as a rent a landlord will quote, the guide says so. Each edition is dated; a later edition is a new purchase. If you find an error in your file, we send a corrected copy free.

Does it explain the retiree permit?

Yes. It is a discretionary permit for people of 55 and over with special ties to Switzerland and means that will last for life, who do not work anywhere. The guide sets out the benchmark our page uses, the cantons’ own document lists and the fees for your household.

Is there a route for remote work?

We found no digital-nomad or remote-work permit in Swiss law. The guide shows what the rules do offer, a job with a Swiss employer or the Young Professionals quota for ages 18 to 35, with a worked example of a remote-working family.

Are the figures in dollars?

Swiss figures are in francs, as the sources publish them, with dollars at the Swiss National Bank’s rate of September 24, 2026. The workbook lets you set today’s rate.

Is it legal or tax advice?

No. Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains how the rules work in general and lists the questions to take to a licensed lawyer and a cross-border tax adviser.

What if a file will not open?

If a file will not open, email us with your order number and we will put it right by sending you a working copy free of charge.

Will my card statement say Quantum Jetset?

It will show MEGACOMMERCIALENT, the payment name of Mega Commercial Enterprises Limited, the Irish company behind Quantum Jetset.

Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains the rules in general, with official sources checked on September 25, 27 and 28 and October 4, 2026; check the source before you act and speak to a licensed professional where it matters.
