Slovakia Relocation Guide

Everything on our Slovakia page, taken further and turned into a working file: an 87-page guide with document lists by route from the Foreigners Act and the Ministry of Interior’s own lists, the funds your household shows at a residence check, the Blue Card salary, the business funds and the fees for your family, purchase costs worked out at five prices, the 2026 income tax worked out at three salaries, and a month-by-month plan; an Excel workbook that does the arithmetic; and a Word checklist you check off as you go. Every rule and official figure is taken from, or calculated from, an official source, 105 of them, checked on October 7, 2026 (some U.S. federal and EU sources on September 25 or 28 or October 4, 2026); the worked households use assumed incomes, labeled as such.

What You Get Beyond the Free Page

Our Slovakia page is free and stays free. The guide adds the parts you need when you actually start the paperwork.

Chapter or toolWhy it matters
Three worked householdsA retired couple on Social Security and a company pension in Košice, one of them with a Slovak-born grandfather; a remote-working couple with two children and one Slovak job offer in Bratislava; and a single early retiree on investment income, for whom Slovakia has no route built; each taken through the route the rules point to, or that none does, the tests line by line, the first-year fees and the monthly lines with an official figure (composite examples: their incomes and savings are assumptions, not real clients).
First-year cost planThe application, card and visa fees, the legal limits and the official references, and the monthly running costs, with a column for your own figures; it matches the workbook, and it says plainly where no official figure exists, such as a rent or a health insurance premium.
Document tracker and month-by-month planEach document by route with where to get it, the 90-day and other age limits and the apostille and translation rules, plus a plan from 12 months before the move to 3 months after, as checklists in Word.
Document lists by routeWhat the Foreigners Act and the Ministry of Interior require for employment, the Blue Card, business, study, family reunification, Slovaks living abroad, five-year permanent residence as the spouse of a Slovak citizen, and citizenship by descent, each dated to the day we read it.
Your household’s numbersThe funds every permit holder shows at a residence check for 1 to 4 adults and 0 to 3 children, the Blue Card salary, the business funds and the fees for a household, in euros and dollars.
Purchase costs and Slovak tax, workedNo transfer tax, the land registry fee and what each of five prices buys at the regional asking prices; and the 2026 contributions and income tax at three salaries, step by step.
Numbers, deadlines and glossaryEmergency numbers in the official wording, the offices you will deal with, the deadlines that repeat, each figure that changes with the official place to check it, and the local terms you will meet.

Made For

  • Americans who have chosen Slovakia, or narrowed it to Slovakia and one other country.
  • Employees with a Slovak job offer, founders with a business plan, and students admitted to a Slovak school.
  • Families joining someone in Slovakia, and Americans with a Slovak-born parent, grandparent or great-grandparent.
  • Anyone who wants to arrive at a lawyer’s or tax adviser’s office already knowing the rules.

What It Is Not

  • Legal, tax or immigration advice. It explains the rules in general; your case needs your advisers.
  • A retirement or digital nomad visa: Slovakia has neither, by our reading of the law, and the guide says so, with the routes that do exist.
  • Residence through buying property: owning property in Slovakia is not a ground for residence, by our reading of the law.

Questions About the Guide

How is the guide different from your free Slovakia page?

The page explains the rules; the guide is built for doing the work. It adds three worked household examples, a first-year cost plan, a document tracker and a month-by-month plan, document lists by route, your household’s funds test and fees, purchase costs worked out at five prices, the 2026 income tax worked out at three salaries, deadlines, the figures that change and where to check them, a glossary and key numbers, plus the Excel workbook and the Word checklists.

How current is it?

The Slovak sources were read on October 7, 2026, some U.S. federal and EU sources on September 25 or 28 or October 4, 2026; each figure is numbered to its source, which is marked with the day it was read. Every figure that changes, such as the subsistence minimum, the tax bands, the Blue Card salary and the fees, carries its year or date, and the table “Figures that change, and where to check them” in chapter 24, Numbers and glossary, lists where to check the current figure. Where we found no official figure, such as a rent or a health insurance premium, the guide says so. Each edition is dated; a later edition is a new purchase. If you find an error in your file, we send a corrected copy free.

Does Slovakia have a retirement visa?

No, by our reading of the Foreigners Act’s closed list of purposes. The guide sets out the routes that do exist for a retiree, including family reunification, Slovak roots and citizenship by descent, and five-year permanent residence as the spouse of a Slovak citizen, with a worked example of a retired couple and of a single early retiree.

Can I move to Slovakia to work remotely for my U.S. employer?

Not on a permit of its own: Slovakia has no digital nomad permit, by our reading of the law. The guide shows how a family can move on one partner’s EU Blue Card with the others on family reunification, with a worked example, and the questions to ask about keeping a U.S. remote job.

Is it legal or tax advice?

No. Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains how the rules work in general and lists the questions to take to a licensed lawyer and a cross-border tax adviser.

What if a file will not open?

If a file will not open, email us with your order number and we will put it right by sending you a working copy free of charge.

Will my card statement say Quantum Jetset?
