Norway Relocation Guide

Everything on our Norway page, taken further and turned into a working file: an 89-page guide with document lists by route from UDI’s own checklists for U.S. citizens and its requirement pages, UDI’s amounts and fees for your household, the costs of buying worked out at five prices, and a month-by-month plan; an Excel workbook that does the arithmetic; and a Word checklist you check off as you go. Every rule and official figure is taken from, or calculated from, an official source, 151 of them, checked on September 25 and October 7, 2026, and every figure that changes is dated, with the place to check it; the worked households use assumed incomes, labeled as such.

What You Get Beyond the Free Page

Our Norway page is free and stays free. The guide adds the parts you need when you actually start the paperwork.

Chapter or toolWhy it matters
Three worked householdsA retired couple in Fredrikstad on the family route with a Norwegian-citizen spouse, a remote-working couple with two children in Bergen who move on a Norwegian job offer, and a single early retiree in Tromsø for whom Norway has no route built, each taken through the route the rules point to, or that none does, the tests line by line, the first-year fees and the monthly lines with an official figure (composite examples: their incomes and savings are assumptions, not real clients).
First-year cost planUDI’s fees, the legal limits and the official references, and the monthly running costs, with a column for your own figures; it matches the workbook, and it says plainly where no official figure exists, such as a Visa Application Center’s fee.
Document tracker and month-by-month planEach document by route with where to get it and any validity or translation rule an official source states, plus a plan from 12 months before the move to 3 months after, as checklists in Word.
Document lists by routeUDI’s own U.S. checklists for a skilled worker and, in its general form, for children, what its requirement pages ask for the assignment, self-employed, job-seeker, spouse and study routes, where Americans hand in their documents, and what the Tax Administration, Customs, the Public Roads Administration and the Food Safety Authority ask for after arrival, each dated to the day we read it.
Your household’s numbersUDI’s fixed amounts a month and a year, its fees for a household of one or two adults and up to three children, and the job-seeker and study funds, in kroner and dollars.
Purchase costs, workedThe 2.5% document duty and the registration fees at five prices, what each price buys at the 2026 averages, and the wealth-tax value and property-tax ceiling for each.
Numbers, deadlines and glossaryEmergency numbers in the official wording, the offices you will deal with, the deadlines that repeat, and the local terms you will meet.

Made For

  • Americans who have chosen Norway, or narrowed it to Norway and one other country.
  • People with a Norwegian job offer and a degree or a trade, employees sent on assignment, and the self-employed with a skilled profession.
  • People with a spouse or partner in Norway, and the families moving with a worker.
  • Anyone who wants to arrive at a lawyer’s or tax adviser’s office already knowing the rules.

What It Is Not

  • Legal, tax or immigration advice. It explains the rules in general; your case needs your advisers.
  • A retirement or digital nomad visa: UDI’s list of application types for a U.S. citizen has none, and the guide says so, with the routes a spouse in Norway or a Norwegian job can open.
  • Residence by investment: UDI’s list has no investor route.

Questions About the Guide

How is the guide different from your free Norway page?

The page explains the rules; the guide is built for doing the work. It adds three worked household examples, a first-year cost plan, a document tracker and a month-by-month plan, document lists by route, UDI’s fixed amounts and fees for your household, the costs of buying worked out at five prices, deadlines, a glossary and key numbers, plus the Excel workbook and the Word checklists.

How current is it?

The Norwegian sources were read on October 7, 2026, including UDI’s pages as saved that day, and some U.S. federal and EU sources on September 25; each figure is numbered to its source, which is marked with the day it was read. Every figure that changes carries its date and the official place to check it, and the guide says which change on a fixed calendar, such as G each May 1. Each edition is dated; a later edition is a new purchase. If you find an error in your file, we send a corrected copy free.

Does Norway have a retirement visa?

No. UDI’s list of application types for a U.S. citizen has no retirement, own-means or digital nomad route. The guide sets out the route a spouse in Norway can open, with a worked example of a retired couple, and a worked example of a retiree for whom Norway has no route.

Does the guide cover the skilled-worker permit?

Yes: what UDI asks for, the employer’s confirmation code, the fee and the waiting time as published in October 2026, the family’s applications and their fees, and a worked example of a family moving on a Norwegian job offer.

Is it legal or tax advice?

No. Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains how the rules work in general and lists the questions to take to a licensed lawyer and a cross-border tax adviser.

What if a file will not open?

If a file will not open, email us with your order number and we will put it right by sending you a working copy free of charge.

Will my card statement say Quantum Jetset?

It will show MEGACOMMERCIALENT, the payment name of Mega Commercial Enterprises Limited, the Irish company behind Quantum Jetset.
