Latvia Relocation Guide
Everything on our Latvia page, taken further and turned into a working file: an 80-page guide with document lists by route from the Embassy of Latvia’s own long-stay visa list for U.S. applicants and the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs’ residence permit lists for U.S. citizens, the money tests and fees for your household, income tax worked at three salaries, the Land Register fees at five prices, and a month-by-month plan; an Excel workbook that does the arithmetic; and a Word checklist you check off as you go. Every rule and official figure is taken from, or calculated from, an official source, 133 of them, checked between September 25 and October 9, 2026, and every figure that changes is dated, with the place to check it; the worked households use assumed incomes, labeled as such.

What You Get Beyond the Free Page
Our Latvia page is free and stays free. The guide adds the parts you need when you actually start the paperwork.
| Chapter or tool | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Three worked households | A retired couple in Riga on the pension-age route and a family permit, a remote-working family of four on the Latvian ancestry route, and a single early retiree of 58 for whom no residence route is built, each taken through the route the rules point to, the tests line by line, the first-year fees and the monthly lines with an official figure (composite examples: their incomes and savings are assumptions, not real clients). |
| First-year cost plan | The permit, card and visa fees, the legal limits and the official references, and the monthly running costs, with a column for your own figures; it matches the workbook, and it says plainly where no official figure exists, such as a rent. |
| Document tracker and month-by-month plan | Each document by route with where to get it and any validity, apostille or translation rule an official source states, plus a plan from 12 months before the move to 3 months after, as checklists in Word. |
| Document lists by route | The Embassy of Latvia’s own long-stay visa list for U.S. applicants, the remote-work visa list, and the residence permit lists for U.S. citizens on the pension-age, ancestry, family and employment routes, the renewal and permanent residence, each dated to the day we read it. |
| Your household’s numbers | The income figure for each route, the means for one to four adults and up to three children, and the permit and card fees for a household, in euros and dollars. |
| Purchase costs and tax, worked | The Land Register state fee and chancery fee at five prices, the default real estate tax, and Latvian income tax on a salary at three levels, with the employer’s contribution. |
| Numbers, deadlines and glossary | Emergency numbers in the official wording, the Embassy and the offices you will deal with, the deadlines that repeat, the figures that change and where to check them, and the local terms you will meet. |

Made For
- Americans who have chosen Latvia, or narrowed it to Latvia and one other country.
- Remote workers for a U.S. employer, retirees of 65 or over, people with a Latvian job offer, and people with a Latvian or Liv ancestor.
- The spouses and children moving with them, and people joining family already in Latvia.
- Anyone who wants to arrive at a lawyer’s or tax adviser’s office already knowing the rules.
What It Is Not
- Legal, tax or immigration advice. It explains the rules in general; your case needs your advisers.
- A residence permit bought with property: the real-estate route closed to new applicants on September 15, 2026, and the guide says so.

Questions About the Guide
How is the guide different from your free Latvia page?
The page explains the rules; the guide is built for doing the work. It adds three worked household examples, a first-year cost plan, a document tracker and a month-by-month plan, document lists by route, the money tests and fees for your household, the Land Register fees at five prices and the tax worked at three salaries, deadlines, a glossary and key numbers, plus the Excel workbook and the Word checklists.
How current is it?
The sources of our Latvia page were read on October 8, 2026, and those added for the guide on October 9; some U.S. federal and EU sources between September 25 and October 7. Each figure is numbered to its source, which is marked with the day it was read. Every figure that changes carries its date and the official place to check it, and the guide says which change on a fixed calendar, such as the income figures PMLP updates each spring after the average wage is published. Each edition is dated; a later edition is a new purchase. If you find an error in your file, we send a corrected copy free.
Does Latvia have a retirement visa?
It has a pension-age route for citizens of visa-free countries, such as the United States, who are 65 or over and have enough means; PMLP’s 2026 figure is a pension of €1,231 a month. The guide gives PMLP’s document list for U.S. citizens and a worked example of a retired couple; below 65 there is no permit for living on savings, and the guide says what the rules allow instead.
Does the guide cover the remote-work visa?
Yes: the 2026 income test of €4,538 a month, the Embassy’s and PMLP’s document lists, the fee, where to file, what the visa does not lead to, and the fact that we found no ground in the law for a remote worker’s family, with a worked example of a remote-working family on the ancestry route instead.
Is it legal or tax advice?
No. Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains how the rules work in general and lists the questions to take to a licensed lawyer and a cross-border tax adviser.

Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains the rules in general, with official sources checked between September 25 and October 9, 2026; check the source before you act and speak to a licensed professional where it matters.
