Italy Relocation Guide

Everything on our Italy page, taken further and turned into a working file: an 88-page guide with the Italian consulates’ document checklists by route, the elective residence, digital nomad and family reunification figures worked out for your household, purchase taxes at five prices, the 7%, impatriate and flat-tax regimes in detail and a month-by-month plan; an Excel workbook that does the arithmetic; and a Word checklist you check off as you go. Every rule and official figure is taken from, or calculated from, an official source, 128 of them, checked on September 25, 2026, INPS’s 2026 assegno sociale on September 26, and the dollar visa fee on October 4; the worked households use assumed incomes, labeled as such.

What You Get Beyond the Free Page

Our Italy page is free and stays free. The guide adds the parts you need when you actually start the paperwork.

Chapter or toolWhy it matters
Three worked householdsA retired couple and a single early retiree on elective residence, and a remote-working family on the digital nomad permit, each taken through the money test, first-year fees and the monthly lines with an official figure (composite examples: their incomes and savings are assumptions, not real clients).
First-year cost planThe official one-off fees and legal limits, and the monthly running costs with their official references, with a column for your own figures; it matches the workbook.
Document tracker and month-by-month planEach document by route with where to get it, its validity and any apostille or translation rule an official source states, plus a plan from 12 months before the move to 3 months after, built around the lease you need before you apply, as checklists in Word.
The consulates’ checklistsThe elective residence lists from New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago, the digital nomad list, and the family visa list, each dated to the version we read, with what you file in Italy after you arrive.
Your household’s numbersElective residence on New York’s per-person reading for 1 to 4 adults, the digital nomad figure, and family reunification on the 2026 assegno sociale for 1 to 4 adults and 0 to 3 children.
Purchase taxes, workedRegistration tax or VAT, with the fixed taxes, at five prices, from a private seller or a builder, with and without first-home relief.
The three tax regimesThe 7% regime, the impatriate regime and the €300,000 flat tax in detail: conditions, deadlines, how you lose them, and worked tables.
Numbers, deadlines and glossaryEmergency numbers in the official wording, U.S. Embassy and Italian consulate contacts, the deadlines that repeat each year, and the Italian terms you will meet.

Made For

  • Americans who have chosen Italy, or narrowed it to Italy and one other country.
  • Retirees and people living on pensions, savings or investments, looking at elective residence.
  • Remote workers and their families weighing the digital nomad permit.
  • Anyone who wants to arrive at a lawyer’s or tax adviser’s office already knowing the rules.

What It Is Not

  • Legal, tax or immigration advice. It explains the rules in general; your case needs your advisers.
  • A substitute for your own consulate’s checklist on the day you apply: the consulates differ, and the guide shows where.
  • A guide to other countries. Our Europe-wide planners work alongside it.

Questions About the Guide

How is the guide different from your free Italy page?

The page explains the rules; the guide is built for doing the work. It adds three worked household examples, a first-year cost plan, a document tracker and a month-by-month plan, the consulates’ document checklists by route, your household’s numbers for elective residence, the digital nomad permit and family reunification, purchase taxes worked out at five prices, the 7%, impatriate and flat-tax regimes in detail, deadlines, a glossary and key numbers, plus the Excel workbook and the Word checklists.

How current is it?

Every rule and official figure was checked against official sources on September 25, 2026, INPS’s 2026 figure for the assegno sociale on September 26, 2026, and the dollar visa fee for October to December 2026 on October 4, 2026; each is numbered to its source. Where we could not reach a source, the guide says so. Each edition is dated; a later edition is a new purchase. If you find an error in your file, we send a corrected copy free.

Does it include the consulates’ checklists?

Yes, the ones we could read: elective residence from New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago, the digital nomad list that New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles share, and Chicago’s family visa list, each dated to the version we read on September 25, 2026. Your own consulate’s list is the one that counts on the day you apply.

Is there an official income figure for elective residence?

Not in the law. New York publishes about €31,000 a year per person, and the consulate in Paris calls the figure a starting point; the guide works it out for your household on New York’s reading and says where no official figure exists, such as for children.

Is it legal or tax advice?

No. Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains how the rules work in general and lists the questions to take to a licensed lawyer and a cross-border tax adviser.

What if a file will not open?

If a file will not open, email us with your order number and we will put it right by sending you a working copy free of charge.

Will my card statement say Quantum Jetset?

It will show MEGACOMMERCIALENT, the payment name of Mega Commercial Enterprises Limited, the Irish company behind Quantum Jetset.

Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains the rules in general, with official sources checked on September 25, 2026, INPS’s 2026 assegno sociale on September 26, and the dollar visa fee on October 4; check the source before you act and speak to a licensed professional where it matters.
