Hungary Relocation Guide
Everything on our Hungary page, taken further and turned into a working file: a 91-page guide with document lists by route from the immigration authority’s pages and the Embassy’s list, every money test in forint, euros and dollars, the voluntary health agreement and permit fees for your household, the transfer duty worked out at five prices, and a month-by-month plan; an Excel workbook that does the arithmetic; and a Word checklist you check off as you go. Every rule and official figure is taken from, or calculated from, an official source, 124 of them, read on September 25, 27 and 28, 2026; the worked households use assumed incomes, labeled as such.

What You Get Beyond the Free Page
Our Hungary page is free and stays free. The guide adds the parts you need when you actually start the paperwork.
| Chapter or tool | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Three worked households | A retired couple on Social Security and a company pension in Budapest, a remote-working couple with two children, for whom the White Card does not work, and a single early retiree on investment income in Eger, each taken through the route the rules point to, the tests line by line, the first-year fees and the monthly lines with an official figure (composite examples: their incomes and savings are assumptions, not real clients). |
| First-year cost plan | The permit fees and the official references, and the monthly running costs, with a column for your own figures; it matches the workbook, and it says plainly where no official figure exists, such as a rent actually paid. |
| Document tracker and month-by-month plan | Each document by route with where to get it, its validity and any Apostille or translation rule an official source states, plus a plan from 12 months before the move to 3 months after, as checklists in Word. |
| Document lists by route | The immigration authority’s own lists for the White Card, the guest investor permit, guest self-employment, the Blue Card, family reunification and the national-interest permit, and the Embassy’s list for filing at a consulate, each dated to the version we read. |
| Your household’s numbers | Every money test in forint, euros and dollars, and the voluntary health agreement and the permit fees for 1 to 4 adults and 0 to 3 children. |
| Purchase costs, worked | The 4% transfer duty and the foreign buyer’s permit fee at five prices, the new-home and first-home reliefs, and what each price buys at the early-2026 averages. |
| Numbers, deadlines and glossary | Emergency numbers in the official wording, the Hungarian posts in the United States and the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, the deadlines that repeat, including the May 20 tax return, and the local terms you will meet. |

Made For
- Americans who have chosen Hungary, or narrowed it to Hungary and one other country.
- Remote workers, and investors weighing the guest investor permit.
- Employees with a Hungarian job offer, and people with family in Hungary.
- Anyone who wants to arrive at a lawyer’s or tax adviser’s office already knowing the rules.
What It Is Not
- Legal, tax, immigration or investment advice. It explains the rules in general; your case needs your advisers.
- A retirement permit: Hungary has none, and the guide says so, with the routes that do not depend on a job.
- Americans with Hungarian roots who can claim citizenship: the guide points to that route but does not cover it.

Questions About the Guide
How is the guide different from your free Hungary page?
The page explains the rules; the guide is built for doing the work. It adds three worked household examples, a first-year cost plan, a document tracker and a month-by-month plan, document lists by route, your household’s tests, health costs and fees, the transfer duty worked out at five prices, deadlines, a glossary and key numbers, plus the Excel workbook and the Word checklists.
How current is it?
The Hungarian sources on our page were read on September 27 and 28, 2026, the U.S. and EU sources it shares with our other pages on September 25 or 27, and the sources added for the guide’s own chapters on September 28; each is numbered to its source. Where we found no official figure, such as a rent actually paid, the guide says so. Each edition is dated; a later edition is a new purchase. If you find an error in your file, we send a corrected copy free.
Does Hungary have a retirement permit?
No. The law’s list of residence purposes is closed and has no retirement permit. The guide sets out the routes that do not depend on a job, the guest investor permit, family reunification and the discretionary national-interest permit, and works a retired couple and an early retiree through them.
Does the guide cover the White Card?
Yes: the immigration authority’s list of documents, filing in Hungary on a visa-free stay or at a consulate, the six-month income test month by month in the workbook, its limits, and a worked example of a family for whom it does not work.
Is it legal or tax advice?
No. Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains how the rules work in general and lists the questions to take to a licensed lawyer and a cross-border tax adviser.
What if a file will not open?
If a file will not open, email us with your order number and we will put it right by sending you a working copy free of charge.
Will my card statement say Quantum Jetset?
It will show MEGACOMMERCIALENT, the payment name of Mega Commercial Enterprises Limited, the Irish company behind Quantum Jetset.
Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains the rules in general, with official sources read on September 25, 27 and 28, 2026; check the source before you act and speak to a licensed professional where it matters.
