Bulgaria Relocation Guide
Everything on our Bulgaria page, taken further and turned into a working file: an 82-page guide with document lists by route from the Implementing Regulation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ visa sheets, the means test, both readings of the digital-nomad floor, the Blue Card floor and the fees for your household, the transfer tax worked out at five prices, and a month-by-month plan; an Excel workbook that does the arithmetic; and a Word checklist you check off as you go. Every rule and official figure is taken from, or calculated from, an official source, 98 of them, checked on October 7, 2026; the worked households use assumed incomes, labeled as such.

What You Get Beyond the Free Page
Our Bulgaria page is free and stays free. The guide adds the parts you need when you actually start the paperwork.
| Chapter or tool | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Three worked households | A retired couple on Social Security and a company pension in Sofia; a family with a Bulgarian Blue Card job offer and a remote job; and a single early retiree buying an apartment through the real-estate investment route; each taken through the route the rules point to, the tests line by line, the first-year fees and the monthly lines with an official figure (composite examples: their incomes and savings are assumptions, not real clients). |
| First-year cost plan | The visa and permit fees, the legal rules and the official references, and the monthly running costs, with a column for your own figures; it matches the workbook, and it says plainly where no official figure exists, such as a rent or a health insurance premium. |
| Document tracker and month-by-month plan | Each document by route with where to get it, the validity and age limits and any apostille or translation rule an official source states, plus a plan from 12 months before the move to 3 months after, as checklists in Word. |
| Document lists by route | The D visa, the long-term permit, the pensioner, digital-nomad, Blue Card, family and investor files, from the Implementing Regulation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ sheets, each dated to the day we read it; we found no checklist published by a Bulgarian post in the United States (as of October 7, 2026), and the guide says so. |
| Your household’s numbers | The means test for one to twelve months, both readings of the digital-nomad floor, the Blue Card floor, and the fees and the real-estate investment for one to four adults, in euros and dollars, with the leva the laws still used as of October 2026. |
| Purchase costs, worked | The transfer tax at five prices, in Sofia and at the bottom of the legal range, and the annual property tax at three assessed values. |
| Numbers, deadlines and glossary | Emergency numbers in the official wording, Bulgaria’s four posts in the United States, the offices you will deal with, the deadlines that repeat, the figures that change and where to check them, and the local terms you will meet. |

Made For
- Americans who have chosen Bulgaria, or narrowed it to Bulgaria and one other country.
- Retirees with a pension, remote workers for a non-EU employer or clients, and employees with a Bulgarian job offer.
- People who want to run their own business or invest in Bulgarian real estate, and families joining someone in Bulgaria.
- Anyone who wants to arrive at a lawyer’s or tax adviser’s office already knowing the rules.
What It Is Not
- Legal, tax or immigration advice. It explains the rules in general; your case needs your advisers.
- Living on savings without a pension entitlement: we found no permit for that situation, and the guide says so.
- Keeping your U.S. citizenship as a naturalized Bulgarian: unless you are married to a Bulgarian or of Bulgarian origin, the law asks you to give it up.

Questions About the Guide
How is the guide different from your free Bulgaria page?
The page explains the rules; the guide is built for doing the work. It adds three worked household examples, a first-year cost plan, a document tracker and a month-by-month plan, document lists by route, your household’s money tests and fees, the transfer tax worked out at five prices, deadlines, the figures that change and where to check them, a glossary and key numbers, plus the Excel workbook and the Word checklists.
How current is it?
The Bulgarian sources of our Bulgaria page and the sources added for the guide’s own chapters were read on October 7, 2026, as were the U.S. federal and EU sources shared with our other country pages; each figure is numbered to its source, which is marked with the day it was read. Figures that change, such as the minimum wage and the minimum pension, are dated, and the guide says where to check the current figure. Where we found no official figure, such as a rent or a health insurance premium, the guide says so. Each edition is dated; a later edition is a new purchase. If you find an error in your file, we send a corrected copy free.
Does Bulgaria have a retirement visa?
Yes, in effect: a long-term permit for foreigners entitled to a pension who have sufficient means. The guide sets out the means test, the documents, including the Bulgarian bank’s letter, and a worked example of a retired couple.
Can I move to Bulgaria to work remotely for my U.S. employer?
Bulgaria has had a digital-nomad permit since 2025, for one year, renewable once. The guide gives both readings of its income floor, the documents the Implementing Regulation asks for, and what the two-year limit means.
Is it legal or tax advice?
No. Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains how the rules work in general and lists the questions to take to a licensed lawyer and a cross-border tax adviser.
What if a file will not open?
If a file will not open, email us with your order number and we will put it right by sending you a working copy free of charge.
Will my card statement say Quantum Jetset?
It will show MEGACOMMERCIALENT, the payment name of Mega Commercial Enterprises Limited, the Irish company behind Quantum Jetset.
Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains the rules in general, with official sources checked on October 7, 2026; check the source before you act and speak to a licensed professional where it matters.
