Austria Relocation Guide

Everything on our Austria page, taken further and turned into a working file: an 87-page guide with document lists by route from the migration platform’s and the City of Vienna’s lists, the retiree test and the general income condition for your household with what rent does to them, quota places and fees, the transfer tax and land-register fees worked out at five prices, the tax scale and capital income worked out, and a month-by-month plan; an Excel workbook that does the arithmetic; and a Word checklist you check off as you go. Every rule and official figure is taken from, or calculated from, an official source, 121 of them, checked on September 25 and 27, 2026; the worked households use assumed incomes, labeled as such.

What You Get Beyond the Free Page

Our Austria page is free and stays free. The guide adds the parts you need when you actually start the paperwork.

Chapter or toolWhy it matters
Three worked householdsA retired couple on Social Security and a company pension, a family with one Austrian job offer and one remote job, and a single early retiree on investment income, each taken through the route the rules point to, the tests line by line with rent set against income as the law provides, the first-year fees and the monthly lines with an official figure (composite examples: their incomes and savings are assumptions, not real clients).
First-year cost planThe consular fees and the official references, and the monthly running costs, with a column for your own figures; it matches the workbook, and it says plainly where there is no official figure, such as private health insurance for the first months.
Document tracker and month-by-month planEach document by route with where to get it, its validity and any apostille or translation rule an official source states, plus a plan from 12 months before the move to 3 months after, built around the quota and the filing clocks, as checklists in Word.
Document lists by routeThe retiree permit, a spouse or child joining you, the EU Blue Card and the family’s Red-White-Red Card plus, the first renewal and the registrations after you arrive, from the official lists, each dated to the version we read.
Your household’s numbersThe retiree test and the general income condition for 1 to 4 adults and 0 to 3 children, in euros and dollars, the quota places and card fees, and the income needed once rent is set against it.
Purchase costs and tax rules, workedThe transfer tax and land-register fees at five prices, and the 2026 and 2027 scale, the special rates on capital income and the relief for researchers at several amounts.
Numbers, deadlines and glossaryEmergency numbers in the official wording, the Austrian consulates’ and the U.S. Embassy’s contacts, the deadlines that repeat, and the local terms you will meet.

Made For

  • Americans who have chosen Austria, or narrowed it to Austria and one other country.
  • Retirees and others living on pensions or investment income, who need to plan around the quota.
  • Professionals with an Austrian job offer, and their partners and children.
  • Anyone who wants to arrive at a lawyer’s or tax adviser’s office already knowing the rules.

What It Is Not

  • Legal, tax or immigration advice. It explains the rules in general; your case needs your advisers.
  • A remote-work or golden visa: Austria’s list of permits has neither, and the guide says so.
  • Citizenship planning in depth: the guide sets out the rules, including that Austria in principle requires you to give up U.S. citizenship.

Questions About the Guide

How is the guide different from your free Austria page?

The page explains the rules; the guide is built for doing the work. It adds three worked household examples, a first-year cost plan, a document tracker and a month-by-month plan, document lists by route, your household’s tests, quota places and fees, purchase costs worked out at five prices, the tax rules worked out, deadlines, a glossary and key numbers, plus the Excel workbook and the Word checklists.

How current is it?

Every rule and official figure on our Austria page was checked against official sources on September 25, 2026, and the pages the guide’s own chapters rely on, among them the document lists, were read on September 27; each is numbered to its source. Where we found no official figure, such as a savings amount that stands in for income, the guide says so. Each edition is dated; a later edition is a new purchase. If you find an error in your file, we send a corrected copy free.

Does it explain the retiree permit and the quota?

Yes. The settlement permit “gainful employment excepted” needs twice the reference rates after running costs and a quota place for each person. The guide sets out the test for your household, how rent is set against it, the quota by state and how it is handed out, the documents and the timing.

Can I work remotely for a U.S. employer from Austria?

No official page we read names a remote-work permit, and the retiree permit rules out work in Austria. The guide explains the routes that exist, including the Red-White-Red Card plus, which gives the family of a Blue Card holder free access to the labor market, with a worked example.

Is it legal or tax advice?

No. Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains how the rules work in general and lists the questions to take to a licensed lawyer and a cross-border tax adviser.

What if a file will not open?

If a file will not open, email us with your order number and we will put it right by sending you a working copy free of charge.

Will my card statement say Quantum Jetset?

It will show MEGACOMMERCIALENT, the payment name of Mega Commercial Enterprises Limited, the Irish company behind Quantum Jetset.

Quantum Jetset does not give legal, tax, immigration, financial or investment advice. The guide explains the rules in general, with official sources checked on September 25 and 27, 2026; check the source before you act and speak to a licensed professional where it matters.
